Law Minister Anisul Huq today expressed his hope that the BNP would go to the parliament otherwise it would face a consequence.

“I don’t think that BNP would stay aside from participating in the parliament. There is still time for them (BNP) and I hope good sense would prevail upon them,” Anisil Huq said this while talking to reporters at a function in Brahmmanbaria this afternoon.

Otherwise, the people would see what consequence the BNP faces, the minister said.

Jatiya Oikyafront, an alliance of BNP and several other parties, bagged only eight seats out of 299 in the December 30 national election, but they did not take oath as lawmakers of the 11th parliament.

BNP and the Oikyafront rejected the election results and demanded fresh election under a nonparty caretaker government by bringing allegations of widespread vote rigging and ballot stuffing.

Responding to a query, the law minister said the formation of a legal framework to seize properties of the family members of war criminals is almost at the final stage.

“We began the task in this regard last year and it is now at the final stage,” he added.
